Business in the Front, Party in the Back

Pattern: Simplicity's Bib Front Shirt #3684
Fabric: 1 1/2 yds stretch cotton
Cost: $10
This top is from another blouse inspirations that combines the clean lines of a button-down with a little twist. In this case, the top in question is sleeveless and simple in the front, with ruffles along the back. It was a whimsicle, easy design to make, and the result is understated but surprising.

To add the ruffles, I made three half circle arcs, serging the top and and hemming the bottom. I laid the first one along the neck and sholder lines of the back piece of the blouse, basted it in place, and trimmed to fit. The next two I layered underneath, sewing the serged edge to the fabric and folding the ruffle down over it. I then basted the sides of the ruffles to the sides of blouse, and the back piece was ready to be incorporated into the rest of the top. Easy peasy.
