Pinkie and the Blue Boy

Pattern: Vogue's Very Easy Vogue Misses'/Misses' Petite Top #V8495
Fabric: rayon linen blend (blue with some pink weft threads)
Cost: $22

It's rainy and cold out, but spring is coming! At the fabric store, I could only buy baby pinks and blues in preparation for a change in weather. And this dress was a welcome change for me--it's light and airy, and I could just see myself pulling it on over a bathing suit to walk down to the river. It does, however, firmly break my resolution to stop sewing summer dresses. Belted (and with tights) I might even get a chance to wear it sooner.

As a rule, I generally don't buy Vogue patterns; there are too many pattern pieces to get me to where I want to go. But the Very Easy Vogue collection gives some creative shapes without the hassle. I bought this one because I liked the ruffled sleeves, but they were NOT working for me: wrong placement, wrong size, wrong everything. (I have since fallen in love with the Pendrell Blouse's ruffled shoulders, especially after seeing Adrie00's version.) So I went with the regular sleeves, narrowed the neck from a boatneck to a crew, ever so slightly lengthened the shoulder (at first I did it too much and it made me look like Beyonce), and lengthened the hem to a dress. I kept the bottom of the skirt as narrow as possible to every so subtly give it some shape.

  2. I think that this dress would work really great with some side pockets. I got this idea from your photo with your hand on your hip. It would add a very casual look to it.
