Raglan Bow Blouse

Pattern: Self-drafted raglan
Fabric: cotton knit
Cost: free from fabric swap

TGIF everyone! Fridays have been my day in the office this semester, and my one opportunity to "dress up." I'm also sewing for my summer internship this summer, and hoping to make a bit of a smarter wardrobe. Nothing too fancy, but something to at least make it look like I'm trying.

This top, which you saw in my earlier blog post, is the latest addition to my casual work wardrobe. It is based on the adorable SBCC Mimosa Blouse, but made in a knit. After searching high and low in my stash and at the pattern swap for the perfect raglan pattern, I ended up just tracing a RTW shirt I had on hand. There is some creasing in the underarms, but not bad overall.

I did have a hell of a time with the neckline and actually made this top twice because the first version turned out so bad. The shirt is a loose knit, almost like a sweater knit, and stretched horribly under my White serger and walking foot. For the second version, I gently stretched fold over elastic around the neckline, and then sewed it to the inside. This gave much better results.

The tie is simply sewn between the front seams of the raglan sleeves. I love the simplicity of this detail. It is a little preppy for me, but has gotten occasional wear and is very comfy!
