Floral Shirt

Pattern: Grainline's Archer Button Up Shirt
Fabric: 2yds cotton voile
Price: maybe $15?

With all the hype over the Grainline Archer pattern, I have to admit that I just wasn't sure I would like it. But then Amber sent me the pattern as part of our Sew Bossy swap and dangit if I haven't worn that top every weekend since. It is just so comfy, and it's the only woven top I've made that has the perfect armhole depth.

So, after I made my work pants, I decided to do some more stash-busting and sew up this soft cotton voile I've had in my stash for over a year. I narrowed the shoulders by about 1/2" each, sewed the complete placket this time, and the fit was perfectly loose and great. The fabric was a bit shifty, especially around the collar (which is far from perfect), but the result is a very soft, very comfy shirt that I can wear for both work and play.

The one challenge of this shirt was definitely the print. I forgot that it had such BIG flowers on it (see the back), and was worried they were going to end up the way of my Pendleton Fail. Luckily I was able to trim the front in such a way that it only shows the little flowers, and the back works out OK. It's a fun top, but I will definitely be making more in solid colors! Maybe prints just aren't my thang...

I'm off to Austin for a weekend trip with the girls and my new top. See you all next week!
