Rebelling Against the Skinny Jean

Pattern: modified Thread Theory's Lazo Trousers
Fabric: 1.5 yds stretch denim
Cost: $8

Lately, I've grown tired of my skinny jeans. I just want something soft, something comfy, something you can really move in. So on a whim, I sewed up these perfectly baggy jeans using one of my favorite pants patterns, the Lazo Trousers. In stretch denim they are loose and comfy and just the thing for hanging out in.

I have made this pattern up twice before (once as pants and once as overalls), and my favorite part is how they hang in the back. No fiddling to get them to hang just right.

In the front, I did remove the pleats this time, and I'm thinking I could have taken the fabric in just a bit more.

I have big plans for these this summer. We are planning a three-month trip to Europe! I'm thinking they will be the perfect travel wear and for those countries where it doesn't get quite so hot. More details soon...

  1. Love your jeans! Yours are the first Lazo's I've seen (other than Morgan's at Thread Theory) and they do sew up nicely in a denim. I've signed up to take Heather Lou's (Closet Case Files) online jeans making course but I was planning to do the opposite - use a different fabric altogether from denim. I have a fantasy of wearing a wildly flowered stretch cotton jean :) reminiscent of the days when I used to embroider all over my jeans....although I may do that too yet :)

  2. Wow, how exciting!! Can't wait to hear all about Europe :) I really like this silhouette, and your pants look great, but I just can't see them on myself. I've tried on some RTW to just test, and they come off right away. I felt that way about skinnies at one point, though, so who knows. For now I'll just be a little envious :)

  4. Looks so good. You can also make one in light blue light denim to wear in warm cities in Europe. It gets pretty warm in southern cities :)

I am also tired of skinny jeans but because I am short it just doesn't feel right in any looser looks. I think. I have lazo trousers pattern in my stash I think I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing

  5. These look so good Meg! They look really stylish & I'll bet they'll be really comfy for lots of travelling. I really enjoyed my 'mum' jeans last summer & found going back to skinnies in the winter to be too constricting and hot, so I totally get where you're coming from.
