Instructions:
Step 1: Buy a bias tape maker for your desired width. In this tutorial, I'll be making a 1" single-fold bias tape. To make double-fold bias tape, simply press the bias tape in half again when you're done.
Step 2: Cut your fabrics in strips, using the width specified on your packaging (mine was 1 7/8"). To make true bias tape, which will curve nicely along a the curves of your garment, cut your strips on the bias by turning the fabric at a 45 degree angle.
Step 3: If desired, you can sew the strips together to make one long strip. Then, insert your strip into the bias tape maker: folding your tape into a sort of tube, insert it into the tape maker and allow it to slip into the guides.
Step 4: When you get it all the way in, it will start to fold nicely into place as you pull it through.
Step 5: To iron the folds, first pin the tip of the bias tape to your ironing board.
Step 6: Slowly pull the bias tape maker along the bias tape strip, making sure that the fabric is folding smoothly into the guides. Follow your bias tape maker with your iron, pressing the folded ends of the tape as you go. When you have reached the end of your strip you should have a pretty little piece of bias tape!
