Winter Wool Dress

Pattern: self-drafted from my a pattern block/stock pattern
Fabric: 1 yd italian wool
Cost: $10

When I saw this wool on sale for $10/yd at Stone Mountain, I knew I had to get it. I immediately started researching ideas for warm, winter dresses. The main design challenge is that wool doesn't work very well for fitted long sleeves or bulky details, but I still wanted something with a little interest. The final design is based on a dress from Pinterest. True, it's not especially wintery with its short hem and short sleeves (I had a yard to work with), but the fact that it is wool alone makes it warmer than any other dress I own.

I spent a lot of time fitting this dress, which was a good reminder that structured pieces can take more effort than my knit striped dresses or my flowy Anna Sui frocks. It was also important because I was planning on wearing this to the BurdaStyle book launch, and I wanted everything to be perfect! Seeing the photographs, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out!
