Pattern: Frankenpattern + self-drafted
Cost: $5
Material: 1/2 yd of striped jersey
After my long battle with trousers, here's a quick project and some photos snapped on Easter Sunday.
The top is constructed much the same as my Peplum Ruffle Top, and very much inspired by the loose ruffle tops I've seen popping up everywhere (bonus: that Free People top cost 11x more than my homemade one!).
To make, I used the Plantain pattern because it is just loose enough for this style of top, chopped it at the waist, and added a rectangular ruffle. Because I only had 1/2 yard, I used New Look 6217 Kimono Tee to make Kimono sleeves instead of set-in ones - there just wasn't enough fabric for anything else! I also laid out my Scout tee pattern for good measure, and adapted the neckline from that. The sleeves and collar are bound, and the hem is simply serged and turned up. I didn't even use my walking foot :)
Mr. K and I headed down to my parent's house in Santa Cruz for the Easter weekend and had an amazing brunch with family followed by beach walks and napping. Hope you're enjoying the coming spring with some new (handmade) clothes, too!
Holy smokes, Meg. This is a franken pattern! Three patterns in one. Regardless, it turned out great!

ReplyDeleteI had that hair-brained idea when I bought it, but definitely won't be trying that again!
