Sewing Meetup and Pattern Swap!

In the new year, having not planned any meetups in the past 12 months, I decided to step down as organizer for our local Bay Area Sewists Meetup. Luckily for me, the lovely Chuleenan of C Sews decided to take over, and this weekend she planned our first Bay Area Sewists meetup of the year!

The occasion was a pattern swap and chat at the Berkeley Public Library, followed by some shopping (and 20% off) at Stone Mountain and Daughter. Here we are, in action:

It was so much fun to be in a room full of local sewists, who not only love the same fabric and patterns but know all the cool things about the Bay Area.

People brought loads of patterns, from 80's power suits all the way up to new McCall's and Sewaholic patterns. Even if I couldn't take them all home, I did snap a few pictures:

As for me, I ended up with more than I came with, and bought some new fabric at Stone Mountain, too. So much for my stash busting...

I got most excited about two Built By Wendy patterns, which Loran said were just my style. I also picked up a McCall's and a Vogue pattern that seemed practical enough.

Then things got real weird. As the swapping started to wrap up, I couldn't help but look over what remained: some 90's ball gowns, body suits, snuggie patterns... While they wouldn't exactly work for my everyday wardrobe, the inspiration for costumes, evening, and fun was just endless. So here's what I picked up in that category (and yes, that's a set of family onesie pajamas with a matching dog outfit on the right):

Thanks everyone for a great meetup, and see you all next month for the fabric swap! If you're in the area, I'd love to get to know you!

  1. Oh, I need to get in on this group! I didn't realize it was a different group than the other group that formed after Amy's departure. I love seeing sewing enthusiasts in real life!
